Ice & Water Shield

A self-adhered bituminous membrane installed at eaves, valleys, and penetrations to prevent water intrusion from ice dams and wind-driven rain.

Per IRC R905.1.2, ice & water shield is required from the eave to a point at least 24 inches inside the exterior wall line in regions where the average January temperature is 25°F or below. Most carrier estimates include only valleys, missing the eave run entirely.
